Marriage Certificate Requirement

An official government-issued Marriage Certificate is required by the Alberta court to process your divorce.

Please select one of the options below:(Required)
Important:: You must provide an official government-issued Marriage Certificate—not a ceremonial or religious version. If you'd like Divorce Wiz to help obtain your certificate, this service is available only for marriages registered outside Alberta, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, or outside Canada. If you were married outside Canada, you’ll need to request your certificate directly from that country’s government authority. However, for Alberta divorce filings, if the official certificate is unavailable, the court may accept alternative details such as your wedding date and location.

Order Your Divorce Certificate (Optional Service)

Once the court grants your divorce, it becomes legally effective after 31 days. While obtaining a Certificate of Divorce is optional and not required to complete your divorce, it serves as official legal proof for future needs such as:

  • Remarrying
  • Updating government or legal records
  • Name changes
  • Travel or immigration matters

You are always free to order the certificate later from the court yourself. However, for your convenience, we offer the option to request it on your behalf as soon as your Divorce Order is granted.

How many Divorce Certificates would you like us to order for you after your divorce is finalized?(Required)
